I know not to play with baby animals in the wild.... b/c mom is watchin... but I can interact with animals at their own comfort level... and I did play pushy paws with a young beaver for hours one day...

2008-12-09 [moira hawthorne]: squirrels are okay.... ive been feeding the squirrels at my home for the last 8 years... Ive name several generations... Baby is my fav... he is too small and has something wrong with him... either a birth defect or he fell out of his tree too young... and now all the other squireels abuse him... he gets beaten up alot... he cant walk straight... has a weird sideways hop and falls over alot... but is so tiny even now that he is an adult... anyways he will sit really close to me and eat peanut oi hand him... he comes run/hoppin when I call him... all my squirrels come running when they see me... as I fed them peanuts... but Baby is just too special

2008-12-09 [moira hawthorne]: Baby does alright... tho I wonder if he will ever mate... but he lives his life and such as it is... he's a little torch bearer... if he can make it anyone can... if I had to guess id say he is quite cheerful. he sure loves peanuts... and is a calm little guy...

2008-12-09 [moira hawthorne]: he has plenty natural instinct still... he has to deal with the other squirrels... cats and dogs... find food... hid food... I dont provide him shelter... he has his nest somewhere in the trees... Ive been providing nuts to all the squirrels for 8 years... Baby been coming to me since he was a very very tiny squirrel... basically all his life... squirrels arent dumb... I am a source of food... they see me as that... and come running... doesnt mean they are tame... or have lost their ability to find their own food... Im just one more nutty tree to them...

We have some geese around here that keep coming back because my neighbors house collects puddles easily (Dont ask me why...) and they come back every year and play in the puddles like it is some kind of lake...it is hilariously adorable! Except when they honk in the middle of the night...then it isnt so funny

2008-12-09 [moira hawthorne]: the stupid geese dont fly south for the winter any more... they stay all winter... but they still fly around in Vs during the fall... well some late ones... a lot actually... where flying north today... and Bill and I were making fun of them... shouting 'you are flying in the wrong direction!' and than Bill faked made shot gun noises and one of them shat on him!

2008-12-09 [Alexi Ice]: HAHAHA! Evil Geeses (lol) the ones we have are mean as well, they try to attack you. We get ours in the springtime, even though I live in the south...because I think our flock is a little off...and they attack the children coming home from the school next door ^^ it is ALMOST funny..

2008-12-09 [moira hawthorne]: the geese rule the parks around here like gangs... adults give their child bread to feed them and the geese attack the children... its sad... I hate them b/c the grass is covered in the shit...

2008-12-09 [moira hawthorne]: 9 X out of 10 when humans feed animals or birds they become quite aggressive... the pigeons (about 2000) downtown attacked my son when he dropped a fry.. scared the hell out of him

2008-12-12 [LynnAnneBrown]: [arthemis_] I don't know for sure, but I think that as long as you are actually creating the models yourself and not assembling elements of other peoples models into your work you will be fine. Here is an example of one I made in google sketch up and tweaked in paint.net and inkscape to Illustrate my point.

I created all the elements myself and although I'm not ready to enter any of my models in compitition yet. This was basically and initial experiment to see what I could do. I feel that this would meet the original work criteria if I were to do so.

2008-12-12 [LynnAnneBrown]: I still think the same thing applies. If you created the elements of a 3D work you self and submitted a photograph of the art then you are still looking at a piece of Art, and not simply a photograph.

Although, with the criterion that I've seen posted I probably wouldn't include stuffed animals, decorations, etc. unless you had actually made them yourself.

I am thinking though that it might be interesting to have a contest that focused on assemblage pieces like scene setting or collage although technically they are two different artforms and may need to be considered seperately.

One second, if you mean 3-D by means of photography, which is in fact art, but not on a medium form of paper and or the computer then no. You should check out the christmas photography competition instead, but things like that are not allowed here.

[LynnAnneBrown] There is a place where you can submit contest ideas, though I am not sure of the WIKI name. IT is posted on mainstreet though, in case you were interested.

2008-12-14 [Artsieladie]: I think it would be cool to have a contest for 3D art and one that isn't necessarily too specific. There is the Crafty Fairytales contest, although it's based around 'fairytales'. :)

Everyone knows that the winning pieces are shown on the Mainstreet and it's easy to see that this page can be viewed by not logged in persons just like most of the wiki-pages on Elftown and of course the Mainstreet.

To answer the question: The pages are exported because the ones entering them want to show non-Elftowners the contests they are competing in and the contests are good marketing for Elftown itself.

2008-12-16 [Artsieladie]: The official contest pages that I've seen have been exported for quite some time now.

Just because Elftown pages are exported, I don't think this says that Elftown is no longer a community. Even 'real life' communities do not keep everything under lock and key. In fact, they want outside visitors and new residents, because this is part of a community's growth. Without growth, a community will eventually become a ghost town. I certainly do not want Elftown to become a ghost town!

Everyone has the choice to enter these competitions or not. The exporting of the contest pages is clearly visible for all to see. This is the first time, though, that 'I've' heard anyone complain about the exporting of the contest pages. I'm not saying that no one has. I'm just saying it's the first time that 'I' have heard this.

I'm also assuming then (I could be wrong) that you would never want your art exhibited in a 'real life' gallery either? Exhibiting your art anywhere exposes it to others, whether it be inside or outside of Elftown. With everyone using the internet, real life galleries are also displaying the art in their galleries online.

I'm also guessing that if your art won, then you would what, decline the win, so your piece couldn't/wouldn't get displayed on probably the most viewable Elftown page by the outside world, Mainstreet?

I do understand your thinking however, because I used to be fearful of the same, but then I realised, well, actually Hedda made me realise, that if I'm going to get my work noticed, then it's a chance one must take. People can't see or know what you have to offer, if they can't 'see' it. A perfect example: If my Pegasus wasn't exported, I wouldn't have the art work that I'm getting paid for to do right now. There is risk involved, but life is a risk anyway. My work as been stolen, but even so, you can't assume that that will always be the case. ;P

Maybe a SF/fantasy lover will stumble across this contest, get curious about Elftown itself---and then join and be a productive member of ET? (And maybe they'll spread the word to likeminded folk?) I think exporting public ET pages is a fantastic idea :)

Wait, I think that should work, too. Just take the photo with someone holding the paper or have it laid somehow viewable to read in the photo. Either way, it's a proof, IMO. ;)
